What I learned from Bible
Study

Last night’s Bible Study Lesson - Romans 13
was a very lively exchange. One thing
that stuck deep in my soul was about prayer in schools. This lesson took me back to memories as a
young girl where school mornings were for devotion. The entire class stood to recite the Pledge
of Allegiance and Psalm 23 every morning.
The talk is that prayer
has been taken out of schools. Was it
prayer we were doing back then? As a
young uninformed child, I did not realize exactly what we were doing or why. No one took the time to explain the reason,
it was just something that was done. It
could be those in charge did not know either.
Maybe if we knew what we were doing and why – it would have been more
beneficial and valuable.
This lesson helped me to
embrace that prayer or talking to God, has not been removed from our schools. Talking and praying comes from the heart – it
does not need to be spoken, it is something sweet, precious and just between us
and God.
Now, this lesson also
caused me to think on things we do from habit, or what our parents did, or
“it’s always been done this way”. Maybe
it is time to take a closer look at some of the things we do and challenge
ourselves the reason “why”.
